An English-Irish actor known for appearing in numerous television series and plays in his career, Brendan Coyle is primarily recognized for starring in the British historical drama TV series Downtown Abbey as John Gates.
In addition to his role as John Gates, he is also famous for playing Nicholas Higgins’s character in the miniseries North & South, Brendan in the play The Weir, and Robbert Timmins for the first three series of Lark Rise to Candleford.
With the outstanding performances throughout his profession, Brendan has been nominated for several rewards, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Brendan Coyle, born David Coyle, was born on the 2nd day of December 1962 in the town of Corby in North Northamptonshire, England, to Irish and Scottish descent parents, respectively Patrick and Delia Coyle.
He is currently 59 years old. Moreover, he is also a great-nephew of the former football player and manager, Sir Matt Busby, Manchester United Football Club.
Having been exposed to the family trade of butchery at a young age, Brendan eventually worked in a meat factory.
It is until he found his passion for acting that he trained at a drama club in Dublin in 1981 named the Focus Theatre, which was co-founded by his aunt Mary Elizabeth Burke-Kennedy.
Afterward, he received a scholarship in 1983 from Mountview Theatre School in England, directing two plays since his graduation from the institution.
