Danny DeWayne McCray is a former free safety and special teams player in the NFL. He played for the Dallas Cowboys and retired with the same team.
Danny is a Texan native. On March 10, 1988, he was born to Roger Wayne Harris and La quita McCray Harris.
Ever since he was young, McCray had an interest in football. In 2004, he was part of the Westfield High School football team and finished second while named on the first-team all-district squad.
He was positioned in the special teams and as a backup safety and linebacker in the acclaimed Louisiana State University Football program in college. He had 196 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and three sacks, in 52 games with 13 starts during his time at the University.
Danny moved on to play in the pro leagues. In 2010, he was acquired as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys after special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis recommended him.
He wore a #40 uniform previously worn by the great Bill Bates of the special teams. Danny then held the record of the third-most special teams’ tackles as a rookie in Cowboys history since 1988, when he collected 28 tackles.
After his initial time in Cowboys uniform, the football player went on to play for The Chicago bears. But after a year, Danny came back to the Dallas Cowboys and retired in 2015.
In 2020, McCray was cast in the American reality series Survivor. The season’s production was postponed until 2021 because of the global pandemic, but when production restarted, McCray and other contestants were flown to Fiji to compete for the 1 million dollars.
