American mixed martial arts fighter Chad Mendes was born on May 1, 1985. His career started on October 10, 2010, when he fought in World Extreme Cagefighting, which eventually merged with Ultimate Fighting Championships. He was one of the fighters who was transferred to UFG.
Mendes defeated Ricardo Lamas in a match at UFC Fight Night 63 in 2015. Mendes surprisingly won by TKO in the first round, winning the first-ever Performance of the Night award.
On June 10, 2016, Mendes took a USADA out-of-competition test that resulted in a potential doping violation. However, on July 20, 2016, Mendes was reported by USADA to be positive for GHRP-6, a growth hormone release stimulator, and suspended for two years, ineligible to compete again until June 10, 2018.
Mendes’ suspension from USADA did not stop him from competing; on January 30, 2017, he took part in Submission Underground 3 and defeated Jeff Glover, a 27-time Grapplers Quest champion from Brazil and a world champion in jiu-jitsu. Back again at fighting in UFG’s ring, Mendes faced Alexander Volkanovski on the 29th of December in 2018.
He lost to Volkanovski by technical knockout in the second round. After the solemn defeat, he was awarded the Fight of the Night award, and soon after, Mendes proceeded with his retirement from the sport. Currently, Mendes announced that he was released from his UFG contract by his request and proceeded with a multi-fight contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
However, it was revealed that he is still under contract with UFG and permitted to compete in Bare Knuckle. On February 19, 2022, he debuted at KnuckleMania 2 and defeated Joshuah Alvarez via technical knockout.
