“Palestine: No Longer Faceless, Never Again Voiceless,” as the never-ending war continues in the land of Palestine, Imam and Activist Dr. Omar Suleiman speaks out to the world about the pain and suffering of the Palestinians. Until now, he continues to fight for social justice by becoming part of different progressive causes.
Dr. Oman Suleiman is an American Muslim Scholar, civil rights leader, writer, public speaker, adjunct professor of Islamic Studies, and an Ethics Center Advisory Board member. He also founded and is the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research president. Because of his intelligence and dedication to his faith and country, he had stood up for many campaigns and brought light to these injustices.
He first started his advocation way back in 2016 as he marched with demonstrators in Dallas against the deadly shooting of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. From this incident, five officers were killed in retaliation for police shootings of African Americans. The activist was invited to the wake to lead the invocation, attended by President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe and his wife Jill Biden, and President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush.
Aside from this, he was arrested on Capitol Hill for joining in the sit-in demonstration for comprehensive immigration reform and protesting in solidarity with a group of clergy at the U.S-Mexico border for the affected families by Trump’s family separation policy. He also participated in the Black Lives Matter Movement by assisting the families of police brutality.
These propagandas had tempted the ISIS in March 2017 to call for his assassination, alongside multiple prominent Western Muslim faith leaders, in propaganda filmed “Kill The Apostate Imams.” In retaliation, he said, “I believe that their venom needs to be condemned. They’ve hijacked my religion.”
